Dancehall superstar Dexta Daps is preparing to bring his highly successful \u201cChampagne Tour’ to Newark, New Jersey this Friday, June 12, at the famed New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC).<\/p>\n
Before stepping on stage, however the entertainer granted a rare radio interview with host Garfield \u201cThe Kool One\u201d Vassell on New York-based Roadblock radio.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking to listeners, Dexta reflected on his remarkable journey from humble beginnings to performing at one of the most prestigious venues in the northeastern United States.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When asked what motivates him, Dexta said, \u201cIt’s just little things like what you just mentioned \u2014 coming from where I’m coming from with this music; standing up on a crate to perform, to being on a stage at NJPAC. Going into NJPAC and seeing what the venue is like because it’s always been a myth to me.”<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhen the owners tell me that only Beres Hammond performed there as a reggae and dancehall artist, that was a wow moment,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Jamaican-born, New York-based entertainment publicist Anthony \u201cER Guru\u201d Turner told <\/span>Caribbean Life “Dexta Daps broke into the mainstream and garnered recognition in 2015 with his breakthrough dancehall hit \u201c7 Eleven\u201d and his collaboration titled \u201cJealous Ova,\u201d featuring Tifa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For Dexta, the Newark appearance represents another milestone in a career that has steadily expanded beyond Jamaica’s shores.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe Champagne Tour is a different vibe,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery performance is surrounded by the celebration of everybody supporting Dexta Daps for over a decade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt’s been over 10 years now since I really got through this music business,\u201d he added. \u201cIt doesn’t feel that long, so I have to point that out to the fans and say thank you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n During the Roadblock radio interview, Dexta took time to acknowledge the supporters who have followed his career from the beginning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI just want to say thanks for all the support,” he said. “I just want to say thank you so much for always believing in me and my craft. You are the reason why I put this thing together to make sure it sounds so good.
