{"id":5826,"date":"2025-09-24T16:28:03","date_gmt":"2025-09-24T16:28:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islandflavaradio.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/24\/minna-lafortune-submits-dance-with-me-vol-ii-for-grammy-awards\/"},"modified":"2025-09-24T16:28:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-24T16:28:03","slug":"minna-lafortune-submits-dance-with-me-vol-ii-for-grammy-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islandflavaradio.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/24\/minna-lafortune-submits-dance-with-me-vol-ii-for-grammy-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Minna LaFortune submits \u2018Dance with Me, Vol. II\u2019 for GRAMMY Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jamaican-born, Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and recording artist Minna LaFortune has officially submitted her latest album, Dance with Me, Vol. II, for consideration in the Best Reggae Album Category at the 68th GRAMMY\u00ae Awards set to take place in Los Angeles, CA on Feb. 1, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">LaFortune told <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Caribbean Life<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on Friday, Sept. 12, that the album, released on Jun. 7, 2025, is devoted to social consciousness and celebrating life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blending reggae, afrobeat, dancehall, and amapiano, LaFortune said she creates \u201ca dynamic soundscape that carries messages of peace, unity, and social justice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">With her emotive voice and captivating rhythms, La Fortune said she \u00a0delivers \u201can unforgettable listening experience that uplifts while raising awareness of important global issues.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">She said among the album\u2019s standout tracks are \u201cCease Fire\u201d and \u201cGlobal Warming,\u201d which LaFortune has submitted for Best Global Music Performance and Best Song for Social Change, respectively. <\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_72886\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72886\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-72886\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caribbeanlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Minna-LaFortune-e1746018323106.jpg?quality=51&amp;w=700\" alt=\"Minna LaFortune\" width=\"700\" height=\"569\" title=\"\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-72886\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"image-caption\">Minna LaFortune. <\/span><span class=\"image-credit\">Photo byMarie Jeremy<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">La Fortune said, \u201c\u2019Cease Fire\u2019 draws attention to the urgent issue of urban violence, addressing tragedies in New York, Haiti, Trinidad, and Soweto.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Over a modern \u201cnew roots\u201d reggae foundation, fused with hip-hop elements, LaFortune sings: \u201cToo many young people lose their lives in their teens, in their twenties, caught in a cycle of death and violence.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">On the other hand, LaFortune said \u201cGlobal Warming\u201d seeks to remind the world of its role in reversing global warming and protecting the planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">She said her musical influences include reggae icons such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Marcia Griffiths, as well as jazz and soul legends like Nancy Wilson and Aretha Franklin. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In 2023, LaFortune released her debut album, Dance with Me, Vol. I followed with the festive Caribbean Christmas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">With Dance with Me, Vol. II, LaFortune said she continues her journey of blending genres and voices to create music that resonates with global audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Beyond music, LaFortune said she is the co-founder and president of the Society for the Advancement of the Caribbean Diaspora (SACD) and founder of the Afro Carib-A Singers. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamaican-born, Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and recording artist Minna LaFortune has officially submitted her latest album, Dance with Me, Vol. II, for consideration in the Best Reggae Album Category at the 68th GRAMMY\u00ae Awards set to take place in Los Angeles, CA on Feb. 1, 2026.
