Hakeem Jeffries, Senator Roxanne Persaud, and Assembly Member Jamie Williams, entertained scores of Canarsie residents on Aug. 10 at the Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">on the Holy Family Church tarmac on Flatlands Avenue in Brooklyn. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">AssemblyMember Chandler-Waterman and Jamie Williams, who co-chair the New York State Caribbean Delegation, ensure that constituents are bused to Albany for Caribbean Heritage events to represent the melting pot of constituents that live in the district.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;We are all one it&#8217;s not, &#8220;a &#8220;I&#8221; thing, it&#8217;s a we thing,&#8221; said Chandler-Waterman, adding that everyone, whether Caribbean, Indian, or African American, &#8220;we are united,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> she said, and invited constituents to join her in the Labor Day parade on Eastern Parkway, on Monday, Sept. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chandler-Waterman, who represents Assembly District 58, a passionate politician for the people, and who co-founded East Flatbush Village Inc. The event also served as a space for community engagement, with local leaders present to connect directly with residents and offer support,&#8221; said the politician<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;In today&#8217;s often divided political climate, unifying community events like the Bankra Caribbean Folk Festival play a crucial role in bridging gaps, fostering trust, and reinforcing shared values. This gathering was more than just a cultural celebration; it was a safe, inclusive space where residents were able to connect across backgrounds, engage directly with elected officials, and access vital resources. Events like this center culture, community, and collaboration. A Seniors&#8217; event at the Senator&#8217;s office, located at 1222 East 96th St., is also on the summer program. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Founder of Braata Folk Singers, Andrew Clarke, who served as emcee, brought an energetic group of performers to the stage for an afternoon of grand entertainment, opening with Genesis Pan Group, which set the tone with a medley of calypso music. (CMA), led by Founder and Executive Director Norine. The organization is currently celebrating Back to School events. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Visit Canarsie, a tourism organization will continue its calendar of Open Streets events on 95th St. between Flatlands Avenue and Conklin Street <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">on Aug.16<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, 17, 23, 24, 30, and 31.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Other partners are My Time Inc., a parent support and networking site for parents of children with autism and developmental disabilities, East Flatbush Village Inc., Community Advocacy Hub, and Enough Initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Assembly Member Monique Chandler-Waterman, in partnership with U.S. Rep.
