{"id":5802,"date":"2025-08-13T14:57:25","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T14:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islandflavaradio.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/13\/bounty-killer-returns-to-toronto-for-first-time-in-over-two-decades\/"},"modified":"2025-08-13T14:57:25","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T14:57:25","slug":"bounty-killer-returns-to-toronto-for-first-time-in-over-two-decades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islandflavaradio.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/13\/bounty-killer-returns-to-toronto-for-first-time-in-over-two-decades\/","title":{"rendered":"Bounty Killer returns to Toronto for first time in over two decades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dancehall icon Bounty Killer is set to perform in Toronto on Aug. 23 for the first time in over two decades. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The legendary deejay is set to headline the Oasis Music at Markham Fairgrounds in Toronto, joining a power-packed lineup that includes Cham, Dexta Daps, and Mr. Killa. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;The festival promises a full-scale celebration of dancehall and soca culture, uniting fans from across Canada and beyond,&#8221; Anthony &#8220;ER Guru,&#8221; a Jamaican-born, New York-based entertainment publicist, told <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Caribbean Life<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on Friday, Aug. 8.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Paul &#8220;Bankie&#8221; Giscombe, Bounty&#8217;s longtime manager, said: &#8220;2025 is turning out to be a special year for Bounty Killer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;With his return to the US stage at a sold-out Barclays Center show on July 5 and now this historic trip back to Toronto after 20 years, it&#8217;s clear God has blessed Bounty and the team.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Turner said Toronto, home to nearly four million people \u2014 including over 500,000 Caribbean nationals \u2014 has &#8220;long been a major hub for dancehall, reggae, and hip-hop. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Despite a two-decade absence, Bounty&#8217;s music has remained dominant in Canadian sound systems and airwaves,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Songs like &#8216;Slow Motion&#8217;, &#8216;Fed Up&#8217;, &#8216;Copper Shot&#8217;, &#8216;Living Dangerously&#8217; (with Barrington Levy) and the chart-topping &#8216;Hey Baby&#8217; (with No Doubt) have cemented his place in Canadian music culture.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to Music Metrics Vault, &#8220;Hey Baby&#8221; remains his most-streamed song in Canada, with over 60 million plays. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Turner said other fan favorites include &#8220;Where You Come from&#8221;, featuring Buju Banton and Capleton. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He said Toronto&#8217;s dancehall legacy continues with stars like Drake, Kardinal Offishall, Lexxicon, and Michie Mee \u2013 all of whom have cited dancehall&#8217;s influence. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Now, the Warlord&#8217;s return adds new fuel to the city&#8217;s Jamaican fire,&#8221; he added. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Bankie said Bounty is &#8220;eager to reconnect with his thousands of die-hard fans here in Toronto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;It&#8217;s more than a concert; it&#8217;s a moment in dancehall history,&#8221; he added. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dancehall icon Bounty Killer is set to perform in Toronto on Aug. 23 for the first time in over two decades.
