The Caribbean Elite Group (CEG), host of the Caribbean Music Awards, has announced the first wave of distinguished honorees for what is considered to be Caribbean music’s biggest night at Kings Theatre in Flatbush, Brooklyn, on Aug. 28.<\/p>\n
CEG said on July 7 that the awards \u201ccelebrate the music legends whose contributions have profoundly shaped the cultural landscape of Caribbean music.\u201d<\/p>\n
It said among the first wave of honorees are Bounty Killer, Super Blue and Kerwin Du Bois.<\/p>\n
\u201cBounty Killer stands out as a transformative powerhouse in global dancehall music,\u201d said CEG, stating that Bounty Killer will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, \u201ccommemorating his immense influence across generations.\u201d<\/p>\n
CEG said Bounty Killer made his \u201cmuch-anticipated return to the stage\u201d for his first US performance in 15 years at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, on Jul. 5, as part of the Reggae Fest concert series.<\/p>\n
Austin “Super Blue” Lyons, the visionary behind the iconic “jump and wave” style of soca via his 1991 \u201cGet Something and Wave\u201d hit \u2013 a phenomenon that continues to ignite the spirit of carnival celebrations around the world still today \u2013 will receive the prestigious Calypso Honors for his lasting impact on the genre, CEG said.<\/p>\n
It said Du Bois, \u201ca versatile powerhouse\u201d, renowned for his exceptional talents as a producer and composer, will be recognized for his \u201cprofound influence on Caribbean music\u201d and will receive a Producer Honor.<\/p>\n
CEG said the 2025 edition of the annual event showcases over 200 nominees across more than 40 categories.<\/p>\n
\u201cVoting wrapped up last month, giving participants the opportunity to select their favorite artists in each category,\u201d CEG said.<\/p>\n
It said this year saw an \u201cimpressive\u201d 73 percent increase in voting compared to previous years, \u201ca clear sign of the event’s significant and consistent growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
CEG said Masicka and Shenseea \u201clead the charge with seven nominations each, while Patrice Roberts and Kes closely follow with six nominations apiece.\u201d<\/p>\n
Notable artists, such as Vybz Kartel, Buju Banton, Nailah Blackman, Chronic Law and Kranium, \u201chave also made their mark, each receiving five nominations,\u201d CEG said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
