With long-time fan favorites and a selection of new songs, Jamaica, Queens-based Braata Productions said on Friday, June 6, that it plans to return to Off-Broadway with “Unplugged \u2014 A Caribbean Choral Experience.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Braata Productions said this year’s season will “center the individual voices of the award-winning choral group. <\/span><\/p>\n

“The Singers will share their musical journeys, bringing an intimate touch to the songs that have shaped them,” it said. <\/span><\/p>\n

Braata Productions said this season also pays tribute to Suriname’s 50th anniversary of independence, highlighting its rich musical traditions. <\/span><\/p>\n

“Additionally, we shine a light on lesser-known Caribbean connections, highlighting the music of places like Belize and other hidden gems of the Diaspora,” Braata Productions said. <\/span><\/p>\n

“We invite you to get up close and truly connect\u2013 not just with the music, but with the voices behind it,” it added. “See you soon!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Braata returned to schools and senior centers across New York City in April, officially kicking off another year of our Braata Educational programming. <\/span><\/p>\n

“From in-school residencies to Senior Center workshops, our teaching artists are inspiring students and elders alike, just as they inspire us,” Braata Productions said. <\/span><\/p>\n

It said that this year, classes include dance, theatre, music, and visual arts, taught at over five schools and senior centers. <\/span><\/p>\n

For the first time <\/span>ever<\/span>, Braata Productions said it is also introducing one-time-only workshops, like its upcoming African Hair Braiding Day.<\/span><\/p>\n

In April, Braata Productions announced that it had <\/span>been awarded<\/span> an Obie Theatre Grant for its work showcasing Caribbean and Caribbean American artists. <\/span><\/p>\n

“As we enter our 16th year, this prestigious recognition from Off-Broadway’s highest honors marks a huge milestone for us,” Braata Productions said. <\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s a resounding testament to the passion, talent, and dedication of every artist, supporter, and community member who has been a part of our story,” it added.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We dedicate this award to the 300-plus artists we’ve had the privilege of working with \u2013 actors, singers, designers, producers, and many more,” Braata Productions continued. “Each artist in our family deserves the opportunity to have their work seen and celebrated on theatre’s grandest stages, and this recognition fuels our mission to make that a reality.<\/span><\/p>\n
