{"id":5719,"date":"2025-04-16T02:39:13","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T02:39:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/islandflavaradio.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/16\/after-a-standout-2024-irie-sets-sights-on-major-collabs\/"},"modified":"2025-04-16T02:39:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T02:39:13","slug":"after-a-standout-2024-irie-sets-sights-on-major-collabs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/islandflavaradio.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/16\/after-a-standout-2024-irie-sets-sights-on-major-collabs\/","title":{"rendered":"After a standout 2024, Irie sets sights on major collabs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jamaican-born, New Jersey-based singer Irie is showing no signs of slowing down after a standout year in 2024, thanks to the success of his hit single \u201cChatty Chatty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChatty Chatty\u201d featured DJ Peter Metro, which Irie, whose real name is Wayne Campbell, said has garnered success in Jamaica.<\/p>\n<p>Irie told <strong>Caribbean Life<\/strong> on Monday that he is preparing to follow up on that momentum with more collaborations and fresh tracks set to drop this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have at least two new tracks coming out soon with Peter Metro,\u201d he said. \u201cI also have one with DJ Powerman titled &#8216;Right Type A Girl&#8217; on the same label, TM God Alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On \u201cChatty Chatty,\u201d Irie revealed the inspiration behind the song.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecording the song was my idea,\u201d he said. \u201cI was thinking about how women don&#8217;t like men who talk too much.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got the riddim from producer Miguel Smith, so I called Metro and told him it would be nice if we could do the song as a collaboration,\u201d he added. \u201cHe liked the idea, so I wrote my part, recorded it, and sent it to him. He recorded his part, and, as they say, \u2018the rest is history.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Irie said \u201cChatty Chatty,\u201d recorded in New Jersey, peaked at #1 on Clinton Lindsay&#8217;s Reggae Charts in New York and also made waves in Jamaica, landing on the Stampede Street Chart, where Irie and Peter Metro were named Artists of the Week.<\/p>\n<p>Irie\u2019s recent accomplishments go beyond studio success. He said he performed alongside US R&amp;B group Blue Magic at a Mother\u2019s Day concert in 2022, he took the stage at Jamaica\u2019s Rebel Salute in 2023 with Peter Metro, and earned the \u201cSinger of the Year\u201d title at the Original Dancehall Thursdays event in Kingston, the Jamaican capital.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Irie said he returned to Jamaica to perform on International Night at Reggae Sumfest, sharing the stage with Peter Metro, Wicker Man, Daddy Lizard and Anthony Malvo.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Waterhouse, Kingston 13, Irie said that he grew up \u201cimmersed in reggae,\u201d disclosing he was influenced by reggae icons Alton Ellis, Bob Marley, John Holt, Dennis Brown, Jacob Miller, Delroy Wilson and Ken Boothe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusic was my everyday life,\u201d he said. \u201cEven at school, I would use the bench for entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead to 2025, Irie said he has several new tracks pending, including \u201cRight Type of Girl&#8221; (ft. Powerman), \u201cCE A Come\u201d (ft. DJ Mikelous), \u201cSleeptalk,\u201d and \u201cPretty Girl\u201d (ft. Peter Metro).<\/p>\n<p>When asked which other artist he would like to collaborate with, Irie was unhesitant, telling <strong>Caribbean Life,<\/strong> &#8220;Lloyd &#8216;Judge&#8217; Ferguson of the Mighty Diamonds, best known for their 1976 single &#8216;Right Time&#8217; and &#8216;Pass the Kouchie,&#8217; which was covered by Musical Youth as &#8216;Pass the Dutchie,&#8217; which became a global hit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love to do a collaboration with him,\u201d Irie added. \u201cHe is the only living member of the group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With his mix of roots reggae, dancehall energy and collaborative spirit, Irie said he is proving himself to be a voice to watch on the international reggae scene.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamaican-born, New Jersey-based singer Irie is showing no signs of slowing down after a standout year in 2024, thanks to the success of his hit single \u201cChatty Chatty.\u201d \u201cChatty Chatty\u201d featured DJ Peter Metro, which Irie, whose real name is Wayne Campbell, said has garnered success in Jamaica.
