Multi-talented Brooklyn-born singer\/songwriter Ajii has teamed up with rising star and Season 21 Top Five finalist W\u00e9 Ani for the release of their new duet, \u201c\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Written by Ajii, W\u00e9 Ani, and Alex Poeppel and produced by Poeppel, the calm and vibey, hypnotically infectious track, out on Friday, offers \u201ca combination of poignancy and groove, with haunting, regret-filled lyrics propelled by a fast, bouncy Jersey club type beat,\u201d entertainment publicist Jennifer Lyneis, president of UE3 Promotions, told <\/span>Caribbean Life. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Poeppel\u2019s credits include Billy Porter, Kenny Garrett, and Goo Goo Dolls.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe singers\u2019 clever narrative approach finds Ajii breathlessly rap\/singing the first chorus and haunting verse, followed by a second and all future choruses harmonizing with W\u00e9 Ani, who shares her edgy perspective on the relationship in the second verse,\u201d Lyneis said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ajii, one of the few Idol contestants to sign with BMG Nashville\/19 Recordings after being eliminated before the Top 10, said \u201cForget About You\u201d is \u201ca deeply personal song for me, one that captures the battle between chasing my dreams and letting go of someone who once meant everything.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn my verse, I reflect on how the grind and ambition have taken over, but there\u2019s still that emptiness\u2014the memories of when things felt simple and real,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not just about missing her body; \u201cit\u2019s about missing how she made me feel, even though I know I can\u2019t go back.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe black Air Forces line is a nod to a time when love felt unbreakable, but things changed, and now I feel disconnected from the idea of even trying again,\u201d Ajii added. \u201cThis song is my way of admitting that I\u2019m still in the process of forgetting. However, I\u2019m channeling those emotions into the music and hoping someone out there feels it too.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Lyneis said W\u00e9 Ani has \u201cthe unique distinction of having been a Top Five American Idol finalist and second runner-up on Season 11 of The Voice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe day after a breakup is truly the worst because you\u2019re just waiting to not feel or remember anything about the relationship,\u201d W\u00e9 Ani said. \u201cIt\u2019s heavy and heartbreaking.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI promise that was not the thought I had going into the session with Ajii, though,\u201d she added. \u201cWe were bouncing around ideas when Alex played this jersey club-type beat. Ajii and I looked at each other like, \u201c<\/span>Yooo<\/span>!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
