Ophlin Russell, whose stage name is Sister Nancy, says she is rearing to give dancehall fans in the tri-state area a musical treat of her “Mystery Dance” <\/span>on June 14<\/span><\/strong> at the Compound, 190-01 Linden Blvd., St Albans, Queens.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sister Nancy is currently in Toronto, Canada, to perform at the launch of her documentary, “Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story,” on Jan. 31.<\/span><\/p>\n

The “Bam Bam” DJ said the event will also feature singer Everton Blender, DJs Roundhead, Lady G, and her legendary brother Brigadier Jerry in what promises to be a historic event.<\/span><\/p>\n

“You know, it has been a long time since my brother and I haven’t worked together. It’s <\/span>gonna<\/span> be a special, special thing,” she told <\/span>Caribbean Life<\/span><\/strong> on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jamaican-born entertainment publicist Anthony “ER Guru” Turner, who will attend the event, also told <\/span>Caribbean Life<\/span><\/strong> that Sister Nancy is “the first female dancehall DJ and one of the dominant female voices for over four decades.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The New York-based Turner said Sister Nancy has had global success with singles “One Two,” “Money Can’t Buy Me Love,<\/span>” <\/span>“Transport Connection,” and her 1982 hit “Bam Bam<\/span>“<\/span> for producer Winston Riley.<\/span><\/p>\n

Turner said “Bam Bam<\/span>“<\/span> is a “well-known reggae anthem and the most sampled reggae song of all time.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2014, “Bam Bam<\/span>“<\/span> was included in a Reebok TV commercial, “which led to even bigger recognition,<\/span>“<\/span> Turner said.<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked about her journey in the music industry, which started in the late 1970s, Sister Nancy said, “I won’t complain because God has been good to me, and I’m grateful.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I perform almost every weekend all over the world,<\/span>“<\/span> she said. “I have been to China, Europe, Australia, Rome, Indonesia, and will be in Dubai soon.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I don’t know what I’m doing right, but it’s working and it’s getting better, so I can’t complain,<\/span>“<\/span> Sister Nancy added. “I think it’s the quality of my performances and <\/span>my<\/span> dedication because I’ve never missed a show.”<\/span><\/p>\n

On Brigadier Jerry, also known as “Briggy,<\/span>“<\/span> renowned for his hard-hitting lyrics and improvisations, Turner recalled that “Jerry found success with recording five albums that contain hit songs like ‘Jamaica Jamaica,<\/span>‘ <\/span>‘What Kind of World,<\/span>‘ <\/span>‘Armagideon Style,<\/span>‘ <\/span>‘Every Man a Mi Brethren<\/span>‘<\/span> and more.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2022, the veteran deejay was crowned “King<\/span>“<\/span> by New York-based entertainment entity Irish and Chin in recognition of his contribution to the Jamaican music and sound system culture.<\/span><\/p>\n
