New York-based, visually impaired reggae artist Nigy Boy has secured nominations in three categories, including “Best New Entertainer,” “Best Song,<\/span>“<\/span> and “Best Singjay Entertainer,<\/span>“<\/span> at the upcoming 42nd Annual International Reggae & World Music Awards (IRAWMA), slated for March 30 at the prestigious Coral Springs Center for the Arts, 2855 Coral Springs Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I <\/span>am<\/span> extremely grateful and humbled to be recognized with three nominations at this year’s IRAWMA awards in Florida,<\/span>“<\/span> Nigy Boy, whose real name is Nigel Hector, told <\/span>Caribbean Life<\/span><\/strong> on Monday. <\/span>“<\/span>It is my work in music that has garnered attention from such a prestigious organization as the IRAWMA.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I will keep doing the best I can,<\/span>“<\/span> he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

New York-based, Jamaican-born entertainment publicist Anthony “ER Guru<\/span>“<\/span> Turner was also ecstatic, telling <\/span>Caribbean Life<\/span><\/strong>, “Nigy’s success is impressive and must be celebrated by\u00a0all Caribbean nationals in the Diaspora, as it proves that we can ‘buss<\/span>‘<\/span> superstars right here in the Big Apple.<\/span><\/p>\n

“This debunks the theory that reggae\/dancehall stars rise only out of Jamaica,<\/span>“<\/span> he added. <\/span>“<\/span>Nigy Boy’s success and that of Shaggy, Kranium, Red Fox, Shelly Thunder, Mr. Easy, Hood Celebrityy, Shinehead and Sasha is proof that we have the talent and ‘wear-it-all<\/span>‘<\/span> to break bonafide superstars right here in the Diaspora.<\/span>“<\/span><\/p>\n

Turner said news about Nigy Boy’s nominations came a day before he released a hot new soca song, “Hold On,” featuring Trinidadian singer\/songwriter Nailah Blackman, and a reggae song titled “Take Care of You<\/span>“<\/span> that “has ‘hit<\/span>‘<\/span> written all over it.<\/span>“<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked about recording “Take Care of You,<\/span>“<\/span> the “Continent Boss<\/span>“<\/span> said, “It was a great joy and honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with Silly Walks on their massive project.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The song explores the darker side of many relationships, and I have no doubt that it will resonate with my fans and a large audience globally,<\/span>“<\/span> he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last year, the <\/span>visually-impaired<\/span> musical prodigy’s career soared with the hit single “Continent.<\/span>“<\/span><\/p>\n

This<\/span> was followed<\/span> by “Karma,<\/span>” <\/span>“Lover Not A Fighter,<\/span>” <\/span>“You & I,<\/span>” <\/span>“Nomad,<\/span>“<\/span> and “Goodness of God,<\/span>“<\/span> among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

His hard work also earned him top billing at Reggae Sumfest 2024, where he solidified his status as a star.<\/span><\/p>\n

“For over 30 minutes, he battered Catherine Hall like hurricane ‘Beryl,<\/span>‘<\/span> with a barrage of hits that had the festive, near-capacity audience screaming for more,<\/span>“<\/span> Turner said.<\/span><\/p>\n
