She said “African Women” is more than just a song.
“It’s a rallying cry for empowerment and recognition,” said LaFortune, expressing solidarity with the message, “I hear you, I see you. One love and nuff respeck!”
She said the lyrics highlight the diverse roles African women play — from dancers and educators to leaders and innovators — painting a vivid picture of their impact in various spheres.

LaFortune said rap sections reflect on the hardships faced by African women, addressing years of toil and suffering while shifting toward empowerment and resilience.
She said the song also showcases contributions across education, leadership, art, and entrepreneurship, spotlighting African women’s influence in universities, companies, and fashion capitals like Milan, Paris, and New York.
LaFortune said the lyrics in “African Women” celebrate “identity and heritage, affirming that genius is in your DNA.”
